How to type Norwegian Special Characters

PC/Windows

Type the Æ, Ø, and Å using the 10-key pad (“Num-Lock” on) and the Alt key.

When you want to type a Norwegian letter hold down the Alt key and type a code into the 10- key pad. Once you release the Alt key, the letter will appear. The codes are:

æ – ALT + 0230 or ALT + 145

Æ – ALT+ 0198 or ALT + 146

ø – ALT + 0248

Ø – ALT + 0216

å – ALT + 0229 or ALT + 134

Å – ALT + 0197 or ALT + 143

        --OR--

Choose keyboard using Control Panel -> Regions and Languages -> Change Keyboard -> Choose Language.

For the Norwegian Bokmål keyboard:

; = ø, Shift ; = Ø

‘ = æ, Shift ‘ = Æ

[ = å, Shift  [ = Å

 

Macintosh/Apple:

Option + a = å, Option + Shift + a = Å

Option + o = ø, Option + Shift + o = Ø

Option + ‘ = æ, Option + Shift + ‘ = Æ

 

iPad, iPhone:

Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Keyboards -> Add New Keyboard …

Mac OS 10.7 (Lion)

Hold down a, popup menu allows choice of (à, á, â, ä, æ, ã, å, ā).  Add shift key for capitals

Hold down o,  popup menu allows choice of  (ô, ö, ò, ó, œ, ø, ō, õ)  Add Shift key for capitals
