Syttende Mai Family Picnic 2012

Saturday, May 19, 2012 ~ 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Please join us in celebrating Norway's Constitution Day.
Music ~ parade ~ free food & drinks ~ games for children

Events & Entertainment

Speaker of the day is Culture and Communications Counselor Linken N. Berryman from the Royal Norwegian Embassy. There will be music, parade, food, drinks, and games for the children.

The Norwegian Embassy is pleased to announce some major improvements to the celebration this year.

  • Special surprise activities for the children in addition to the usual games.
  • Norwegian style hot dogs and soda catered by German gourmet, sponsored by the Norwegian Embassy
  • Water sponsored by Voss water
  • Popcorn provided by Sons of Norway
  • Ice cream provided by the Norwegian Ladies Club

This year's celebration will be a bigger, better and more inclusive event, with a focus on the children. After all, 17 May is "barnas dag" (children's day) in Norway. We look forward to seeing you in Carderock Park for a Norwegian-style May 17th event.

The music will again be performed by Rockville Brass Band, a volunteer based band dedicated to preserving the tradition of the British brass band. The band has been active in the area for over 40 years, and after many years of performing at the Norwegian celebration in Carderock Park, they are well versed in Norwegian Brass band music, playing such classics as "Jegermarsjen" and "Norge i rødt, hvitt og blått."
