Viking Festival

Saturday, May 12, 2018
10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Old Town Manassas
At the Harris Pavilion (9201 Center St, Manassas, VA 20110) and on the Manassas Museum lawn

Our lodge and the Icelandic Association of Washington DC are organizing the first outdoor Viking Festival in Manassas, Virginia.

Please wear your Viking best, but leave weapons, even replica ones, at your longhouse (at home).

A 40-foot replica Viking ship from Pennsylvania will be featured, along with Viking reenactment groups camped on the Manassas Museum lawn. The groups will demonstrate aspects of daily life during the Viking era including iron work, tool making, wood carving, fiber arts, archery skills and period fighting.

Be sure to visit the animals — The Raptor Conservancy of Virginia will bring some of their raptors including the gyrfalcon. There’ll be an Icelandic sheep from Three Bags Wool Farm, a fjord horse, and hopefully Icelandic horses from Frida Icelandic Riding Club.

Also attending: the Icelandic Folk Dancers "Sporið" from Iceland, the Nordic Dancers of Washington, and the Irish/Celtic dancers from the Phoenix Dance Academy. Browse the wares of vendors and artisans, including those of rosemaling artist Tina Keune and fiber artist Karen Richardson, the Danish Club's Aebleskiver, Swedish foods and gifts from the Drott Lodge, and Mikko Nordic Fine Food. Local restaurants will offer Nordic fare and other refreshments.
