Vikings in the National Geographic Magazine (October 2002)

October 2002

We welcomed journalist/author Priit Vesilind, of whom we learned when we saw his cover story about the Vikings in the National Geographic magazine of May, 2000.

About his career Mr. Vesilind says:

“After 28 years of service with the National Geographic Society, Washington, D.C., I retired in Feb. 2002, as Senior Editor for Expeditions and Adventure stories to pursue freelance work and book interests, although most of this work has been on articles for the Geographic. During my career I held various other jobs at the Society, including Senior Writer, copy editor, text editor, caption writer, and all the jobs that lead up to those. I have authored some 33 articles, with many located in the Baltic Sea area and Scandinavia. My work on the story of the Vikings in 2000 was preceded by articles on the Baltic Sea, Baltic Nations, Helsinki, the Saami, and several on Eastern Europe, including the fall of the Berlin Wall (1989)."

" I am a native of Estonia, and emigrated to the United States in 1949 with my family when I was six years of age. A Norwegian man, Ingolf Kvamme, was our sponsor to this country. I grew up in the small town of Beaver, Pennsylvania, graduated from Colgate University with a B.A. in English"
